Do you have the problem of scant beard hair?
Are you missing patches of facial hair from scars, surgery or genetics?
At The Wimpole Clinic we are now able to transplant hair to a man's face to achieve a full, thick beard or to replace patches of missing facial hair. The principles are the same as a regular hair transplant to your scalp.
After a beard hair transplant procedure, you will be able to shave and style your facial hair however you wish.
Facial or beard transplant can be carried out to restore hair loss to:
- Sideburns
- Cheeks
- Moustache
- Goatee
- Beard
A beard transplant can conceal scarring (such as acne) or trauma (such as scars, burns or accident).
Absence of hair in these regions can be caused by genetics, electrolysis or laser hair removal.
Some men will need only limited coverage or filling in while others can achieve a thick full goatee and beard. The number of grafts can range from a few hundred to a few thousand.
The donor hairs are taken from the back scalp which when transplanted typically grow like normal facial hair in texture and characteristic. To provide a natural appearance, the hairs are transplanted as individual and sometimes two hair grafts. Great care is taken to assure natural growth and appearance including the careful placement of the grafts at the exact angle and direction of typical growth. Once placed, the microscopically dissected grafts of a beard transplant are permanent.
The procedure is essentially painless as is the recovery period. For the first 5 days after the procedure care is needed to keep the transplanted area absolutely dry. By the second day you can resume non strenuous activities. The transplanted hairs will fall out after about 2 weeks and then start to re-grow some three months later where they will continue to grow for a lifetime.
The new growth will not fall out and will require normal trimming, shaving or styling to suit.
